UDAK SHAANTI PUJA
Udak Shaanti Puja is ideal for those seeking auspicious
results regarding children, peace at home, better career prospects and for
growth and success in all spheres of one’s life etc. Water is mainly used in
the Udak Shaanti Puja. Water is used in all Vedic Karmas, Achaman, and
Sandhyavandana rituals. The water of river Ganga is always considered sacred
and can be used directly without infusion for the purpose of purification of
materials and objects.
Purnakumbha
Purna
means completion and the significance is that the endeavour undertaken must be
successfully completed. It is a main part of all Hindu rituals. It is used in
Graha Pravesh, weddings and all auspicious functions. When used for Pujas, a
red thread is tied around the pitcher in beautiful, intricate, geometrical
patterns. Very often the deity is invoked in the Purnakumbha. During Pujas, Mantras
are chanted which charge the water with divine power and the water is used for
“Abhishek” or as Prasadam to the devotees.
The
pot symbolizes Mother Earth; water is the life-giver, the green leaves stand
for life and coconut, is the divine consciousness. The water symbolizes the
primordial water from which the entire creation emerged. It is the divine
essence and gives life to all. It is the soul filled with love and compassion,
abundance and hospitality. Creation is represented by the leaves and coconut is
the symbol of God-head. It is done in Udak Shaanti
procedure as well.
During
the Puja, various Mantras are recited which charges the water in the Kalash.
The water in the pot absorbs energy waves of the Mantras and then transmits
them into the environment. These energy waves are transmitted because of the
Jal Tattva (water element) and Akash Tattva (ether element), which have been
charged with Mantras.
Description of Udak Shaanti Puja
After Ganesh Pooja, a Kalash filled with Ganga water is
prepared with mango leaves and coconut. Varuna and other Gods are invoked into
the Kalash. Mantras from Yajurveda and other Vedas are recited.
These Mantras are very powerful and can purify the minds
and the surrounding environment. The term Udak Shaanti; means bestowing peace
through water.
This charged water is now Tirtha Jal and can be partaken as
the blessings of God. This Tirtha is said to activate the five Pranas, viz
Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana. This energized water purifies the
Pranamaya Kosha (the energy sheath), thereby it stills the mind of the
individual. This water is utilized for the Abhishek of Deities and given to the
